The Innovation Academy (IA) at the University of Florida is a groundbreaking living/learning community that pulls unique students from more than 30 majors into a spring-summer cohort with one common minor: Innovation. The IA Convocation for the students kicks off the academic year by bringing all of the incoming IA students together and welcoming them to the University of Florida.

The first weekend prior to the spring semester, the event is filled with a keynote address, messages from faculty, the university president, and program students, and break-out sessions where students become acquainted with their intended major. In my role at IA, I had the opportunity to brand the event and oversee the implementation and execution of all visuals throughout the day.

THE CHALLENGE

The Innovation Academy enrolls and supports academically talented students focused on developing knowledge to grow new ideas, unique opportunities, and cutting-edge services and products through curricular and co-curricular experiences. We wanted the visuals to reinforce the values of the program, get students excited about their enrollment in the exclusive program, and see themselves in the overall branding.

THE APPROACH

The 2016 Convocation branding combines the IA pillars (creativity, entrepreneurship, ethics, and leadership) with as illustrative style. The majors included in the program (30+) are depicted intertwined with the UF spirit and IA pride, with a custom font. Can you find all of the hidden gators?
