Knack is an online tutoring platform enabling higher education institutions to augment existing academic support services and to book supplemental tutoring on their campus, reaching underserved populations.

Knack’s visual ui and illustration treatments are clean and organic, and are often accompanied by white modules outlining the platform’s benefits and how-to’s. An iterative and collaborative process, these challenges scratch the itch to problem solve on brand for users. These examples are among many designs I’ve created for the desktop, iOS, and Android apps, as well as across marketing ads, presentation decks, etc.

THE CHALLENGE

Knack came to me after having seen my illustration work and in search of a designer to help with product illustration. They had a general style and some examples of the direction they wanted to take their visuals, but needed someone to help execute their vision. There were abstract concepts overall that they also needed help visualizing.

THE APPROACH

The illustrations I developed for their “Capitalize on Your Knacks” page ended up being used across the website, and have informed the different illustrations used in states throughout the app (Dashboard Login and SignUp and app store images above). The overall style is that of fluid / organic people in various blue and orange landscapes and flurries of scientific and abstract shapes. Occasionally I digress from the palette and treatment when creating fun social media graphics.
