Peerfit launched the purchase of ‘FitKits’ (at-home workout kits) to accompany your digital fitness during the pandemic. You could join live and on-demand classes offered by fitness partners and continue getting your sweat on by using your equipment and working out in the comfort of your home.

I designed the entire user flow, from the external landing page and in-app modals from feature card to the purchase screens, for the launch of these across the web and native apps. I also designed the overall branding of the cards and communications, as well as flows for any error states and edge cases.

THE CHALLENGE

I wanted to create a simple, easily navigable experience so that the user would have a similar visual experience despite the entry point (external landing page sign in to purchase or in-app purchase on desktop or mobile). The challenge was to have this user journey be seamless, and for the user to understand what they get when they purchase the FitKit. There were a few edge cases to consider as well when mapping out the flow, uncluding whether or not the user had enough credits to purchase (or if they had to purchase additional credits to complete the purchase), if the user is signed in or not, and if they have a credit card on file or if they need to enter their payment information.

The flow was fairly straightforward, but the biggest challenge I think we faced was that we could not use actual images of the equipment included in the kit (as the color of each and brand would vary). This made it very hard to showcase what you’ll receive—and thus I tried dozens of different images of the equipment from the vendors and dozens of designs and layouts as the perimeters and copy changed. I think we came to an overall good solution for users when equipment was hard to come by at the beginning of the pandemic.

THE APPROACH

I designed the feature cards, the landing pages, and the purchase flow from beginning to end using the same at-home workout image as well as the icons displaying the items to be included in the kit. The illustrations of figures using an equipment included in the kit were also part of the branding, as well as a equipment guide to show you some exercises you can do with the equipment. We sold hundreds of these within the first day of the launch, and were on back-order for the weeks to follow!
